The word “peeling” means peeling, changing or moving. Medical peeling is not just a word. It has to be understood as a technique or procedure.
Facial peeling groups different treatments to renew the most superficial skin layers aimed at correcting various defects of the skin.
They may be performed by using different chemical substances or laser. According to their degree of depth, they can be classified into superficial, medium and deep.
Each treatment is indicated for the correction of certain defects:
Superficial peels: are carried out with less aggressive products or cosmetics (retinoic acid, alpha-hydroxy acids etc.) and we use them to improve the overall appearance, in a systematic way, in the delayed post-operative lift surgery period as well as in hyperpigmentation and senile keratosis.
Medium and deep peels: cause a burn depth that depends on the concentration of the substances used (trichloroacetic acid, normally, between 10% and 30-40%) and equal to the mechanical dermabrasion.
Medium peels are useful for the correction of fine wrinkles. We perform them mostly in the perioral region (wrinkles around the lips) and in the periorbitareal region (crow’s feet).
Deep peels are used in the treatment of deep wrinkles and in the scar sequels, especially acne scars.
